The HP LaserJet 9000 printer series was introduced in May 2001, targeted at the general deparental office and entry-level production applications markets. Not meant as a replacement for any other HP model, the 9000 series stood alone as HP's fastest laser printer (at time of introduction), with a print speed of 50 pages per minute (ppm). To achieve this, two laser beams were directed onto the OPC at the same time, writing two lines of print simultaneously.

In March of 2002 the LaserJet 9000 multifunctional (MFP) was released, intended for corporate office applications. Based on the LaserJet 9000's Canon^® design, it offered the same print speed and utilized the same 30,000-page print cartridge. Physically the MFP model had a more traditional digital copier appearance than other models, designed as a fully integrated copier/printer, rather than simply a printer with a copier module attached.

Troy offers four MICR enhanced models using the 9000 line printers and MFPs, both Secure and non-Secure versions.

Only one page yield version cartridge is available for the entire HP 9000 line. Its large format, "no-shake" design with stirring mechanisms to evenly distribute toner within the hopper, and the chemically bonded end plates (no screws) only hint at its complexity. Troy's Secue and regular MICR cartridges also come in only one yield, with one SKU for Secure and one for regular MICR printing.
